Overview

We are seeking a Summer Intern or Co-op in our Vancouver office. The Summer Intern / Co-op will be exposed to all aspects of CAI’s investment process including deal sourcing, due diligence, analysis and execution, and ongoing portfolio company support. This role will be in-office and structured as a twelve-week contract beginning mid-May 2024 (duration and start date may be flexible).

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Deal Sourcing
    • Assist in screening companies against investment criteria and identifying those with potential investment merit
    • Assist with conducting preliminary analysis to support or refute investment thesis
    • Assist with managing the deal pipeline on CAI’s customer relationship management (CRM) platform
  • Investment Evaluation
    • Assist in performing financial and industry due diligence on potential investment opportunities
    • Assist in drafting sections of investment memos and other presentations
    • Support the team in the preparation of acquisition models
    • Participate in meetings with management for due diligence purposes
    • Participate in discussions regarding investment decisions
    • Perform analysis on specific sectors and industry trends
  • Transaction Support
    • Assist in performing confirmatory due diligence
    • Work alongside financial, legal, and other transaction advisors where applicable
    • Assist in preparing bid letters for new deals that are being pursued
    • Support the team in reviewing transaction documents (NDAs, purchase agreements, credit agreements, etc.)
  • Portfolio Company Monitoring
    • Participate in meetings with portfolio companies
    • Support investee companies on key strategic initiatives when required
  • Administrative
    • Support the administrative team on tasks when required

    • An understanding of financial models and frameworks to analyze the financial dynamics of various investment opportunities
    • An understanding of accounting concepts and the ability to analyze financial information to derive insights into the historical and future performance of companies

Qualifications

  • Third- or fourth-year students who are completing an undergraduate degree (preferably with a specialization in finance or accounting)
  • Demonstrated interest in investment evaluation, M&A, or the broader financial services industry
  • Proficiency in MS Office and strong analytical and research skills
  • Authorization to work in Canada
